Summary

These episodes of Mormon Stories include a recording of our live interview on 10/23/17 with renowned author, Dr. D. Michael Quinn, author of the final volume of the “Mormon Hierarchy” trilogy.  In his newest book, Wealth & Corporate Power, Michael provides a comprehensive look into how the LDS Church acquired wealth from the early days of the church until the 21st century.

We cover in detail:

  • How Michael was persuaded to expand the project from an appendix, to a full-fledged book
  • Michael’s meticulous methods in gathering and remembering information
  • His thoughts on the ethics of receiving “leaked” information, and whether he uses such information in his work
  • His observations in the changes of church financial strategy and salaries throughout the decades of church leadership
  • His views of the contemporary Mormon Church

…and so much more

This book, a particular published by signature books, is the Mormon hierarchy wealth and corporate power, which follows on to other really amazing important books in Mormon history, origins of power and extensions of power, all published by signature books.

We're very grateful for the first hour and a half we spent with Michael where he talked to us about the history of writing the book.

It was an extensive history and it was good and it was an important fascinating stuff.

Talked a lot about the sources, about the timeline, about what didn't go into the book, and about to some extent how Michael was hesitant or even reluctant to write some of the things that he did,

So we're grateful for it.

What is this book about and why should I read it?

What would you say?

2:18.0

2:40.0

And it's been a kind of rollercoaster ride for the Mormonism because during that time period, the church generally was just barely financially getting its feet on the ground.

2:58.0

And the leadership for the most part were living hand-to-mouth like most early Mormons.

3:07.0

And what sets this group and this experience apart is something that is not repeated anywhere else in more in American history that I know of.
