Summary

These episodes of Mormon Stories include a recording of our live interview on 10/23/17 with renowned author, Dr. D. Michael Quinn, author of the final volume of the “Mormon Hierarchy” trilogy.  In his newest book, Wealth & Corporate Power, Michael provides a comprehensive look into how the LDS Church acquired wealth from the early days of the church until the 21st century.

We cover in detail:

  • How Michael was persuaded to expand the project from an appendix, to a full-fledged book
  • Michael’s meticulous methods in gathering and remembering information
  • His thoughts on the ethics of receiving “leaked” information, and whether he uses such information in his work
  • His observations in the changes of church financial strategy and salaries throughout the decades of church leadership
  • His views of the contemporary Mormon Church

…and so much more

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories podcast. I'm your host John DeLin. It's October 23rd, 2017.

0:47.0

We could not be more excited or thrilled or eager to have you join us for this very exciting interview with D. Michael Quinn, author of the book, The Mormon Hierarchy, Wealth and Corporate Power, published by Signature Books.

1:07.0

So we are recording this in front of a live studio audience in Leihai, Utah and we're just very excited to have Dr. D. Michael Quinn back with us. This is not his first appearance on Mormon Stories for those of you who don't know about Michael Quinn.

1:26.0

Please go back and watch that interview. It's definitely one of the most powerful and important and fascinating interviews we've ever done on Mormon Stories podcast.

1:36.0

So I'll make sure you guys know that a couple of just quick announcements. We are announcing the launching of a Mormon Stories podcast being available through Patreon.

1:49.0

Patreon is a really wonderful platform to make it possible for people to pay for or support these podcasts sort of on a per release basis.

2:00.0

So you can sign up for one dollar per interview or per release. And let's just say we have six or eight a month. It's just six or eight dollars a month.

2:11.0

Just to be really clear about why we're doing that and what we're doing, we've got great supporters for the open Stories Foundation of people who support us at 10 or 25 or $100 a month.

2:22.0

That revenue is critical to the open Stories Foundation because it's how we fund the open Stories Foundation and our staff.

2:30.0

Unfortunately, it turns out that only less than one percent of our listeners actually donate to Mormon Stories. So 99.5 percent of our listeners just listen for free and don't support us.

2:42.0

And so the reason why we've added Patreon to the mix is to incentivize those of you who feel like $10 or $15 or $20 or $100 a month is too much.

2:52.0

It's a way for you to just pay a lower amount and only to to pay as we release things. So we definitely don't want any of you who support us through the normal channels to cancel and switch to Patreon.

3:06.0

But we are trying to capture a little bit more higher percentage of our listeners because we really do need that support to keep the operations of the open Stories Foundation going.

3:17.0

So I think the link is something like Patreon.com slash Mormon Stories podcast. You can go there, you can sign up.

3:23.0

And as an incentive, what we're doing is we're going to be releasing these interviews two days early on Patreon before the rest of everyone, the free listening audience gets to sign up.

3:36.0

So if you want to get any of these interviews free or early going forward, not free, but early going forward, please sign up to Patreon.

3:44.0

And if you just want to be a normal Mormon Stories podcast listener again, you can go to Mormon Stories.org and sign up there.

3:51.0

Please check out our events page, Mormon Stories.org slash events for the upcoming events that we have to support.
