Summary

Jim and A.Ron are here to break down all the action from this week’s premiere episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones, “Winterfell”. And indeed the ancestral home of House Stark houses the direwolf’s share of the action and intrigue, as characters are reunited, dragons are flown, and divisions within the forces of the Living threaten to undermine the war against the Dead. It’s clear that sharing power and cooperating is going to be a challenge, not only for Jon and Dany, but for the many different peoples who have thrown in their lot with them. We’ll be back Friday for our SpoiLORE edition that delves into the background details of the World of Ice and Fire as well as mines for hidden details that may yet remain in the source books! You can get 25% off all annual memberships to Club Bald Move from now until May 7th! A.Ron wrote two books on Game of Thrones religions and culture! They’re fun and informative, and feature amazing exclusive Thrones inspired artwork! We also have exclusive “House Snow” enamel pins and matching t-shirts if you’d like to show your allegiance to the once and future king! Welcome to the Game of Thrones podcast, the official podcast for Game of Thrones on HBO. I'm Jim.

1:00.7

I'm Aaron. Today we're talking about season 8 episode 1 titled Winterfell. It was the only

1:06.4

title I could find for it. I think it's officially on HBO now. What do you think of the opener for

1:13.3

the final season? A fitting title I think. It's the quintessential setup episode. We pretty much

1:22.1

knew everything that was happening. You just have to wait for everyone else to catch up to where

1:27.2

the viewer is at. You know what I think about reunions and bringing everybody together.

1:31.8

If you didn't have the scenes, a lot of people were like, oh nothing happened. But if you didn't

1:36.9

have the scenes we had, people would be like, what the fuck? John and Ari is going to get together

1:40.7

and I could have an emotional. You have to do it and I think you want to do it. But if since the

1:45.7

show has been off for a year and a half, I see some frustration about like, well, geez, nothing

1:50.1

happened. But I thought it was really good. There's a couple things that bothered me the first

1:55.2

time I watched it that didn't bother me as much after I thought about it. I think I've maybe

1:59.3

talked myself into thinking the show runners are doing something different. We can fight about that

2:03.1

later. There's a couple things like like the like the graduate stuff, pretty clunky. All the

2:09.1

Kings landing stuff I think was pretty clunky. And they're just a check off a couple of boxes

2:16.7

that I'm particularly care about. But overall, yeah, I thought it was pretty good. What about you?

2:20.5

Yeah, I mean, I think the abbreviated season is probably going to hurt the storytelling overall.
