I've been kneeling here all night since they took the body away.

I hold it to my chest and close my eyes.

Brow furrowed breath hell like a child listening through a thick wall.

But its secrets feel distant and faint.

So I unzip my jumper to press the eye into my skin tight against the stillness of my heart.

Light falls on my eyelids.

I begin to feel the wind grow warm and cause around me.

I open my eyes.

I'm kneeling atop a sand tune under a sunny cloudless sky.

Before me, a lone figure trudges towards distant mountains.

It's her, the girl from the marsh.

I sense the pain of her loss like it was my own.
