I decided that I was going to invest in my ability to make a better difference, a more

profound difference, and that's what I did.

I just focused.

In today's very special show, I sit down with the incredible Dr. Margaret Martin, founder

of the Harmony Project, a nonprofit organization that provides multi-year mentoring through

music to at-risk youth in the high-crime gang reduction zones of Los Angeles.

You guys, this is one of the most special interviews I did this season, and I cannot wait for

you to hear about this incredible woman and the work that she's doing within her local

community.

For people who are not familiar with you already, will you tell us your bio, tell us about

your life and your career?

Okay, so my name is Margaret Martin.

I'm a doctor of public health.

My first child was born when I was 17.

I'm a survivor of all sorts of things that many women have survived.

I'm a survivor of domestic violence, child sexual assault, and I found myself in my

20s homeless with two children, an infant and a nine-year-old.

So I was homeless for a year.

With two kids, we slept in an office that I had.

I had a, I guess, I'm a serial nonprofit maker.

I had a pregnancy and natural childbirth education center in the Los Feliz section of Hollywood,

and we lived in my office for a year until I could find a way to move on.
