A whole stack of resignation letters. I'm John Saucier Fox News. The Senate

ethics committee told New Jersey Senator Baumenendez Monday they were

considering pushing him out of the Senate. Well today they didn't need to.

The senator who was convicted of bribery and corruption announced he will resign.

Here's Fox is Jessica Rosenthal with more.

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez is resigning August 20th.

His resignation letter was read aloud on the Senate floor.

Monday the Senate Ethics Committee had notified him they'd be voting to start an adjudicatory

review of his alleged violations of Senate rules that could have allowed

the senators to begin the process of expulsion.

He was convicted last week of 16 charges including bribery, conspiracy to commit extortion

under color of official right, obstruction of justice, and of acting as a foreign agent for accepting money from New Jersey businessmen with ties to Egypt and Qatar.

He faces a more than 200 year prison term at sentencing in late October. and

Earlier on the day we learned about secret service director Kimberly Cheetel.

She's also resigned under increasing pressure to do so after that House Oversight Committee

hearing yesterday about the security failures before the attempted assassination of

former President Trump.

And there was another hearing today.
