It's a lovely sunny day outside in December and we're continuing the conversation we had

And last time, I think we got as far as market garden and then you had to disappear off

You were behind the Irish guards, weren't you?

Had you been attached to 8th Army Brigade at this point?

Yes, we were with 8th Army Brigade.

The Irish guards group led the invans up the main road to the Maritime home.

And we were sort of waiting while they got over the Earth Coker now.

It was very familiar that we went on.

So what can you remember of that time?

September 1944, you've hurtled across Belgium and out of France and into Belgium and into Holland.

I mean, it must have been a kind of slightly exhilarating time, wasn't it?

Yes, it was. It was amazing.

Every now and then we got checked.

Right, because of the Germans, every now and then we put out an anti-tank gun or something

which hurled us up a bit.

Right.

But then we paused.

We were based in Berkeley, about before the advance of the unhoven road started.
