Hello, it's October, my friends, my favorite month of the year.

Emma and I are empty nesters now, and we took a drive to see fall foliage.

Yes, that means we're getting older, and no, I'm not going to apologize for it.

When you're raising kids, experiencing nature is built in. For years, I did a trip to the apple orchard and the hay rides and the corn maze and all those things that preschoolers love to do.

And for a decade or so, I was on Halloween duty,

walking around the neighborhood in the dark with a couple of little goblins,

sometimes carrying the littlest one when he tuckered out.

He's bigger than me now.
