Greetings, this is podcast number 74 of Blast the Right.

0:24.2

I'm Jack Clark from TheRationalRatical.com.

0:27.7

This last podcast of the year will be a review of some of the worst things the right wing did in 2006.

0:38.7

Let's get right into it.

0:40.7

Now that Blast the Right has had a full year of podcasts, I think I fall under that mandatory rule of broadcasting which requires a year end review.

0:51.7

Far be it for me to challenge authority and break the unwritten rules, huh?

0:56.7

So I went ahead and gave some thought about what a Blast the Right year end review should be, which of the right wing obscenities I told you about during the year should be included.

1:06.7

Here's how I put together my list.

1:08.7

You know I often say that right wing policies inevitably cause increased human misery, suffering, pain, and death.

1:16.7

I don't think I've ever explained exactly what the components of that phrase mean to me.

1:22.7

Misery and suffering I associate with the increased poverty in general economic deprivation produced by right wing economic measures.

1:31.7

Pain and death refers to the actual physical pain and dying that is caused both by poverty and more directly by right wing policies that lead to war and that fail to protect against environmental hazards and fatal diseases.

1:47.7

Now it's hard to quantify evil saying one type of right wing caused increase in human misery, suffering, pain, and death is worse than another type of right wing caused increase in human misery, suffering, pain, and death.

2:02.7

Obviously in terms of sheer magnitude, bushes continuing slaughterhouse in Iraq would be number one.

2:10.7

Since on this podcast I like to give you a perspective not found on the mainstream media, I've limited my worst of 2006 list to items that were terribly under reported if reported at all in the mass media.

2:25.7

I've selected three in each category of damage.

2:29.7

First we'll do the misery and suffering economic deprivation category. Then we'll go on to the physical pain and death examples of the right wing in action.

2:39.7

When you're at family gatherings and other festifications during this holiday season and right wing bladder rears its ugly head, the following will give you a smorgasbord to choose from to throw back at the right winger who's spouting their usual nonsense.

2:58.7

Our first 2006 story is from podcast 60, the increase in extreme poverty in America.

3:06.7

Regarding my sources with this year end review, I'll be doing something a bit different. For each item I'll tell you which podcast the material is from.

3:15.7

You can check out the sources listed for that podcast on my data resources page. Listing sources here verbally for six different podcasts would take up a disproportionate amount of time.

3:26.7

A handful of new sources I'm citing will be listed under podcast 74.
