What's going on? Welcome to the fit, healthy, and most of all happy podcasts. I'm your host and coach

0:06.6

Josh here with. His co-host and co-coach KG and I'm in the house. Got a little tongue tied there,

0:13.0

but today we're going to be covering seven things we wish we knew before we started lifting.

0:17.9

I love making these episodes. We did one on YouTube way, way back because it's

0:22.0

really fun reflecting. And having been lifting about 13 plus years now, which is absolutely nuts,

0:27.6

I guess it's actually closer to 15 years, like since I've truly been lifting, I'd say lifting

0:31.9

properly about 13 years, but I've learned some things, being in the game, I've seen some things.

0:36.5

And I carefully curated my

0:38.3

top tips and I think you're really going to like the last one and you definitely want to make sure

0:42.8

not to miss it. So I'm going to jump into it with my first tip and that is form overweight. And I've said

0:49.5

this before too and I like I never liked this tip because I thought it was super obvious but I really thought on it

0:55.6

lately because I was watching like early videos of my early squats and my early deadlifts and now they like

1:01.7

make me cringe a little bit it's not to say they're horrible but it really is cool to see how much

1:06.7

I perfected my form to this date and when I started started, I lifted quite heavy. I was still squatting

1:11.7

like 405. I was deadlifting high fours into the fives, but it just was really sub-othamol when it

1:18.2

didn't need to be. And a lot of strength is actually like utilizing your biomechanics and your

1:23.3

setup as properly as possible. So really learning the basic things. I'll give you some examples.

1:28.3

Like a lot of people, any new person who will bench our gym is teen fitness. So they let teens get

1:33.0

free memberships, which is awesome for them. That's actually how I started, which is pretty cool.

1:37.7

But they'll start with their elbows flared up. And it actually puts a lot of stress and pressure

1:42.6

on your shoulder joint as well as your chest and cause injury.

1:45.9

And the issue is you'll learn that way and you'll keep doing that way for months and months.
