Summary

Sinbad (no, not that Sinbad) is probably the 3rd most famous story from a collection titled "One Thousand and One Nights". It's a story of loss, hardship, and redemption...and then partying so hard that you forget all that loss, hardship, and redemption and need to do it all over again. Six more times. On the plus side, it's not just about an out-of-touch rich guy being out-of-touch and rich, but being so while experiencing some pretty weird stuff. 0:53.6	you might not have heard, but really should. The story today is from a collection known as
0:57.4	1000 and One Nights. It was collected over the course of centuries by many different writers,
1:02.3	and we've actually already told two stories from it, Aladdin and Alibaba. Today's story is set
1:08.0	right in the middle of the Middle Ages, in a largely Islamic society, and the story takes place
1:12.3	all around the Middle East and parts of Asia, with Symbad living in Baghdad in modern-day Iraq.
1:20.0	Symbad the Porter's back ached. He was getting too old for this. Well, anyone would be too old for this.
1:26.8	His job was lucky and heavy things around Baghdad, on his head. With the new day sun beating down on him,
1:34.0	he could say he was having a tough morning, but really they were all tough mornings. His back
1:40.2	and neck screamed under the weight, until he had to take a rest, until he had to sit down.
1:45.2	He passed a manner, and he was hit by the cool, sweet smelling air that wafted from inside.
1:50.9	He was ahead of schedule, so he shrugged. Why not rest in the stranger's home without permission?
1:56.4	What could go wrong? He laid his burden down on a bench, and sat back. Even though he should have
2:03.2	just enjoyed the cool air, and a few minutes respite from way too much weight compressing his spine,
2:08.4	he started to check out his surroundings. A discontentment began to grow within.
