The hinge between the Old Testament and the New Testament is the forerunner, the one

who prepares the way for the Messiah.

That's John the Baptist.

Now John the Baptist is interesting because we celebrate in the Catholic church his birthday,

his nativity.

It's important because we only celebrate the days of saints, capital S saints.

And so if we're celebrating the birthday of John the Baptist, as St. Thomas Aquinas

explains, we are celebrating a saint.

And this means that John the Baptist was a saint on the day of his birth.

Now you may ask, well, I thought that everyone is born with original sin.

Well, we know that Christ wasn't.

We know our lady wasn't.

We also see Jeremiah the Prophet wasn't.

And John the Baptist wasn't.

But there's a distinction.

We are conceived in our mother's womb when the sperm hits the egg, the ovum.

A new human life comes into an existence, a soul.

And all of humanity, thanks to Adam and Eve, are conceived in original sin.

That means we do not have supernatural life.

We do not have grace.

And we don't have the original justice, the righteousness that Adam and Eve were established

in in the garden.
