In real life, I'm a guy that made an audiobook.

I'm on the ninth floor of the LA County Courthouse.

It's the celebrity murder floor.

This is where O.J. Simpson was tried and Phil Specter, the grim sleeper, the night stalker,

and now Anthony Rouda.

Rouda's been awaiting trial for over a year.

He looks like he's aged a decade.

He's in a restraint chair, arms strapped down, doubtless the result of so many courtroom

disruptions.

He gets wheeled in backwards by half a dozen deputies.

They're filming him, but the judge won't let me record in the courtroom.

So I take notes the old fashioned way, by hand, in my reporter's notebook.

By now, Rouda's exhausted the public defender's office and the alternate public defender's

office.

He's on to a private attorney who represents indigent clients.
