Your kidneys are remarkable organs. But, they’re vulnerable to damage from various foods and substances, which can lead to serious health issues.
7 foods that destroy the kidneys:
1. Instant noodles
Instant noodles often contain the preservative TBHQ, which is toxic to the kidneys.
2. Foods high in artificial dyes
Foods like Skittles contain dyes that can wreak havoc on your kidneys.
3. Fried chicken
The combination of high heat, seed oils, and breading in fried chicken can lead to glycation—a process that clogs everything up, especially in the kidneys.
4. Commercial bread
Commercial bread is loaded with potassium bromate, a harmful chemical linked to kidney cancer.
5. Soda
Soda contains phosphoric acid, which is harmful to the kidneys. It’s also high in sugar, which contributes to diabetes—the number one cause of kidney damage.
6. Agave syrup
Often falsely marketed as healthy, agave syrup is high in fructose, which puts immense stress on the liver and kidneys.
7. Cereals
Cereals are packed with refined sugar, seed oil, and refined starch. They also often contain glyphosate, a harmful pesticide.
Kidney disease prevention is key. Avoid bad habits that damage the kidneys, like consuming the foods above, and focus on a diet that supports kidney function.

0:00.0 | Let's talk about the seven foods that destroy your kidneys. |
0:03.4 | Your kidneys are simply amazing. |
0:05.9 | Each kidney has about a million little tiny filters. |
0:08.8 | They're called nephrons. |
0:10.1 | And they have the ability to selectively get rid of certain bad stuff and retain certain good things. |
0:16.6 | And with the 2 million nephrons you have, you filter out 50 gallons of blood every single day. And so these kidneys recycle 99% of all of your |
0:27.3 | blood. So only a little bit is released. And one of the big problems with your |
0:31.2 | kidney is high blood pressure, |
0:33.0 | because if you have chronic high blood pressure, |
0:35.1 | that can really destroy those little tiny filters. |
0:38.5 | Another thing that's even more destructive than blood pressure to your kidneys |
0:42.2 | is high levels of sugar as in diabetes. So all |
0:45.9 | this sugar that's in your blood has to go through these little tiny filters |
0:49.0 | and then what happens when it interacts with the filters is it makes those little filters |
0:54.0 | smaller. So now it can't filter. So now you're going to be losing sugar and |
0:59.0 | losing protein in the urine. A couple simple ways to determine if there is a damage of the kidney is, |
1:05.4 | number one, do you have sugar in the urine? And number two, do you have protein in the urine? Because if you do, |
1:11.6 | that can mean kidney damage. |
1:13.8 | And also the color of your urine is important too because when the kidneys stop filtering, |
1:18.8 | the color of the urine is no longer kind of an amber yellow. |
1:22.3 | It can get darker, and it can turn actually a lot of different |
1:25.6 | colors. But one of the most important things that the kidney does is activate vitamin |
