In retrospect, we all should have known something is up when Professor Burton bought the Douglas

0:06.8

farm. Douglas was a farmer in name only, somewhere managing to scrape a living together

0:12.4

off a few cows, scattered chickens, and the occasional cabbage. In the end, he was sick

0:18.3

of keeping up the pretence, sold off everything, and settled into the comfortable position

0:22.6

of town drunk.

0:25.3

How much was known about Professor Burton? Thin, bold, with thick spectacles? He looked

0:30.7

every part the college professor. He was apparently a professor of botany, and no knew why anyone

farmers and their animals. But, the farming business isn't what it used to be, and

1:27.4

soon most of the local farmers shifted to producing fruit and vegetables for the surrounding

1:32.0

markets. Locally grown and well priced produce is all the rage these days, especially

1:37.4

odd heirloom varieties. But some still kept a few animals around, like a couple of chickens

1:43.3

for eggs, a cow for milk, or a well-loved horse.

1:47.8

But, business was bad. So, as one of the few locals with any scientific background, I

1:53.2

soon took up a part-time job as a CSI. Not that there was much to do, but it's at least a regular
