I was doing an interview recently where someone asked me a really cool question.

I had to pause for a second and think about it.

When I started giving consumer advice in the 1980s, what did people call me about?

Do you know far and away overwhelmingly were car problems?

Either problems with getting a car repaired, problems with a car being unreliable, vehicle, and we didn't use the word vehicle.

It was all called car or whatever it was.

I mean, that was by far the number one thing people would call in about.

And today, problems with a car, it's reliability, getting it repaired, anything like that.

It's still a category we hear about.

It's still a category people call us about for our free off the air advice we offer as well.

But it is a minor category versus being the dominant one.

The reason is vehicles are so much more reliable than they used to be.

I know this is hard to believe, but companies manufacturing electric vehicles say that the technology being used in electric vehicles means that those vehicles are potentially capable of staying on the road a million miles, a million.

And it's not at all unusual that gas engine vehicles can stay on the road a quarter million.
