Summary

Noah Rasheta is the CEO of iStabilizer, and the founder of Secular Buddhism podcast.

Noah was raised in the LDS church with a U.S.-born father and a Mexican-born mother - living many years of his life both in Mexico and in the United States. Noah served an LDS mission and was married in an LDS temple to his wife, Giselle. Several years ago Noah experienced a major betrayal of trust by a loved one, which led to a deep exploration of Joseph Smith, LDS Church doctrine, and LDS Church history. By the end of his exploration, Noah lost his belief in fundamental LDS Church doctrine and truth claims, but found great solace and strength in the teachings of secular Buddhism.

Today Noah remains semi-active in the LDS church as part of a mixed-faith marriage, and teaches the principles of Secular Buddhism via his podcast, his new book, and occasional workshops. For those seeking to either supplement or replace LDS-based spirituality, or who are looking for a fabulous framework for positive mental health and well-being (before, during, or after a religious faith crisis) the teachings of Secular Buddhism can be extremely valuable for you.

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories Podcast. I'm your host John DeLin and in reality this isn't just a Mormon Stories Podcast.

This is also a Mormon Transitions Podcast.

1:02.0

But first of all let me just give you the date. It's January 19th, 2017.

1:09.0

I say this every time but I absolutely mean it every time and today.

1:14.0

I am so excited for my current guest. This is someone I've wanted to interview for literally years.

1:21.0

But I truly believe that this will be one of the most important interviews that I ever do and I'm not intentionally adding any hyperbole.

1:31.0

I really mean it. Today we're going to be interviewing a dear friend of mine. His name is Noah Rasheda. Noah Rasheda has been a listener of Mormon Stories for quite some time.

1:43.0

So he's a dear friend. He's got so much wisdom to share with everybody. And Noah is the founder of a website and a book and a podcast called SecularBudism.com.

1:58.0

And we're going to talk about that in our interview. But SecularBudism.com has become one of the top 100 religious themed podcasts in the world.

2:07.0

From my perspective based on what I understand. Noah has not only published this podcast but also written a book called Secular Buddhism.

2:16.0

And he's appeared with me at many of my Mormon transitions, retreats and workshops. Talking about Secular Spirituality, Secular Buddhism, mindfulness and that sort of thing.

2:27.0

So before we actually launch into the interview, there's just a couple, I want to set the stage. We're going to start by talking about Noah's story. So in that sense, it's going to be a very classic Mormon Stories interview.

2:40.0

I imagine that's going to take at least a couple hours to do. From there, what we're going to do is we're going to dig into at least a good hour on Secular Buddhism and the main principles of Secular Buddhism.

2:55.0

And I'm super excited about that because I believe that Secular Buddhism, which is not religious in any way, it's not supernatural in any way.

3:06.0

It's an absolutely powerful and I would even argue essential paradigm both for positive mental health and for navigating Mormonism, inter-out of the church and just basic fundamental principles of good mental health.
