years back the FBI was called in to investigate one of the most truly bizarre kidnappings they had ever seen.

One morning, a high-earning top bank executive named John Grunhoeffer was kidnapped as he arrived to work

in Minneapolis. The kidnapper who introduced himself as Carl approached John in the parking garage

at gunpoint. A gunman, ambushing someone in broad daylight?

Was this some trained criminal? Hardly. The kidnapper was a clumsy, middle-aged man who brought a

how-to-kidnapped cheat sheet along with him to reference during the abduction. Carl, as the abductor referred to himself, ordered

him into John's Mercedes-Benz, and the two set off for Wisconsin. And from there, the story

gets even stranger, if you can imagine it. In the end, the kidnapper ultimately disappeared

and was never identified. And all these years later, the case still remains unsolved.

In recent years, interestingly enough,

there's been speculation that John actually staged

his kidnapping himself in order to gain sympathy from the public.

Though this theory was never proven, it's just another angle to one of the craziest and most
