2:05.0 | Well, I mean, I think for most of us when you're kids and this is what scares the hell out of me as a father is the kids don't realize it's a toxic environment. |
2:12.0 | I mean, so my stepfather is was an alcoholic bipolar on the on the manic side of things. And so it's just a very angry person. |
2:22.0 | And so I grew up in a household where if I got home and he wasn't home, you could breathe easy. But you know, you see the truck coming down the lane way or something. |
2:31.0 | And suddenly the tension arises, everyone rises. You're not quite sure who's coming through the door. You're not sure what kind of day they had. |
2:36.0 | You're not sure if at dinner time you want to look up from your plate because you're busy eating as quick as possible. |
2:42.0 | So you can get out of the kitchen without without taking any heat. And I didn't realize that that was a bit of a pressure cooker childhood, but that's what I grew up with. |
2:50.0 | So obviously I would think that when we become parents, I grew up with some abuse in the house as well. |
2:57.0 | My dad was an alcoholic, but I used to get the threats from my mom. You know, if you guys keep acting up, your dad's going to come home and beat you. |
3:04.0 | And literally at 11, 12 o'clock at night when he got home, there were nights he woke me up and did that. |
3:09.0 | There were nights he woke me up and gave me pizza. It was bipolar. It was manic. It was crazy. So I somewhat can relate. I didn't have the alcoholic father. |
3:18.0 | But with that mindset, I tried to be a little different with my kids. Are you really are you much different with your children? |
3:26.0 | I mean, I think I think we are. So so it's interesting because of the environment we're in now. I'm actually I've spent the last almost a year now with my kids here at home. |
3:34.0 | I'm not in the office. I'm not I'm not getting home 20 minutes before they go to bed. I'm not up hours before they leave. I'm not I'm not out. And so I'm learning a lot more about who they are. |
