This is Madeline Thompson with five things you need to know

for Wednesday, November 13th.

President-elect Donald Trump announced several more potential additions to his cabinet this

afternoon, including one that a source says elicited audible gasps from some House Republicans.

Trump has officially named Representative Matt Gates as his pick for U.S. Attorney General.

Gates is currently under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegations including

illicit drug use and sexual misconduct. Gates has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

CNN's Kristen Holmes has the latest.

One of the things that we have talked about extensively is how Donald Trump plans to run the Justice Department.

He does not want to see it as an extension of the executive branch.

He wants to see it as something that is completely underneath the executive branch.

And in order to do that, he needs an attorney general who is on board.

And there's almost no one who is on board with Donald Trump more than Matt Gates.

Now, this was a surprise to a number of even his insiders and allies.
