A judge has delayed former President Donald Trump's sentencing in his Hush Money case

until after the 2024 presidential election.

In a four-page letter explaining his decision, the judge wrote that he would sentence

Trump on November 26th if necessary. Here's CNN's Kira Schenel.

He's doing this in part to avoid any appearance that he is trying to influence the

election to affect one party or the other. Now he's also saying that he is not going to rule on the

question of presidential immunity. That decision was expected to come on

September 16th. The judge now saying he will not issue that decision until after the election as well.

Trump's lawyers have said that if they lose that they're going to appeal it and they will

likely also seek to continue to delay the sentencing.

In May, the former president was convicted on 34 counts of false the alleges she had an affair with him, which Trump denies.

Trump's sentencing has been on hold for months,

after his lawyers pushed to have the conviction tossed

because of the Supreme Court's ruling

that Trump has immunity for official acts he took as president.
