The Israeli military this morning announced it attacked a site in Syria in retaliation

to a drone strike the day before.

Israel says that drone hit a school in the south of the country,

but despite the Iran-backed hooty rebels in Yemen claiming responsibility for that drone, Israel says it came from Syria.

This only adds to concerns over the conflict in the Middle East spreading as Israel continues

its bombardment of Gaza in its fight against Hamas.

Israel's military has announced a six-hour pause today.

A senior Israeli official says pauses like this give civilians the ability to travel south for humanitarian aid.

But relief agencies warn medical supplies are low in Gaza, with the director of one hospital

saying they've had to operate without anesthesia.

If we had waited to operate on them one by one, we would have lost many of the wounded.

We were forced to operate on the ground and without anesthetics,

while using simple anesthetics or weak painkillers to save lives.

Surely this has its risks, but we opted for this option to save as many injured as we could.

Democratic Senator Joe Manchin says he won't be running for re-election and a blow for the party's chances to hold on to their Senate majority next year.
