Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, August 5th.

Vice President Carmelah Harris is in the final hours of her search for a running mate. She's heading out on a swing state

tall tomorrow and whoever she chooses will be joining her so expecting a decision soon.

Harris met with top contenders all weekend and while sources say it's not clear

whether she's made her decision yet, she does appear to have it down to a final three.

They are Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona.

CNN's Julia Benbrock has more.

Throughout the process, Harris has been asking close advisors who would make the best governing partner for her at the White House.

Another top consideration though is electability.

She's been looking at how each of them would balance out the ticket and how they'd help in key battleground states.

Shapiro and Kelly, of course, from states that will be critical in November.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump has said he will debate Harris, but only on Fox News, after he dropped out of an ABC news debate he'd previously agreed to.

Japan's stock market suffered its biggest ever one day lost today, causing Asian shares to plunge.
