Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, June 24th.

Parts of the Upper Midwest are dealing with catastrophic flooding, as the record-breaking heat wave shifts to the west.

People had to leave their homes and be rescued in Iowa, South Dakota, and Minnesota, as the water

levels quickly rose over the weekend.

Like in Rocky Valley, Iowa, where this rescue worker spoke to K-T-I-V.

Most of the waters are probably to the top of most of the houses at the top of the front doors and most people

that we evacuated were up on the second floor.

But there's cars everywhere underneath the water that we don't see.

All three states have made disaster declarations,

and in South Dakota, at least one person has died

because of the flooding.

The governor there said the threat isn't over.

In fact, it's likely to get worse today through to Wednesday.

And millions of Americans dealt with extreme heat over the weekend,

when DC hit the 100 degree mark yesterday,

and Baltimore reached 101. The heat wave is now expected to move

west with the National Weather Service predicting triple-digit temperatures in

California, Arizona and Utah.

Meanwhile more than 1300 Arizona and Utah.

Meanwhile, more than 1300 people have died, mainly because of extreme heat, at this year's

hard pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
