Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, February 5th.

More than 600,000 homes and businesses have lost power in California as rain drenches the state.

Millions of people are living in areas with a high risk of life-threatening flooding,

with parts of LA forecast to get close to half a year's worth of rain by tomorrow.

That's where the National Weather Service is warning that the Atmospheric River will bring, quote,

one of the most dramatic weather days in recent memory. Some places have already seen winds reach

more than a hundred miles per hour and four to eight inches of rain are expected

across Southern California, while eight counties have declared a state of emergency.

Hi Joe, yes, this is an extremely dangerous situation unfolding for the greater

LA area, including the Santa Monica Mountains, eastward through the

Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills areas. There have been numerous damaging

landslides, flooded roadways, and submerged vehicles with Swiftwater

Rescues.
