Hi, and welcome to Five Word Prayers Daily, a five-day-a-week daily devotional where we share the

word, prayers, and our heart. I'm Lisa Whittle, and I welcome you to just five minutes with me,

which I trust and pray will be five minutes well spent. We're going to be talking today about

what may be one of the most important things we talk about on this show. It's something that I dare say we all

wrestle with, we all pray about, something God found it quite important to talk about in

scripture for good reason. Let's get right into it. There's an iconic phrase a lot of us have probably heard.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Interesting as I was researching that a bit for this show, I found that it's a phrase as old as me.

Been around for now, 46 years, yes. And it was actually a

marketing campaign created by the United Negro College Fund to help raise both awareness and funds

to help African American students get placement and funding for higher education. Just a little

known fact there, maybe. But important to look at where

this iconic phrase about the mind came from, I thought, as the mind is one of God's greatest

gifts to us as human beings on this earth. So many rich verses in the Bible about the mind,

some of my favorites, Romans 12, 2. So do not conform to the pattern of

this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Paul's saying here, if you want to know

what God's will is for your life, the rest of that verse talks about that. Renew your mind. Don't think like

the world. Think like Jesus. Think about Jesus. Focus on him.

If we want renewed minds, we can't think about world things all day and then expect to not have

flawed, compromised, yes, dirty minds. The word renew here suggests our mind is already compromised. Paul knows, Jesus knows,

our present mental condition. There are no secrets about where we are from God. So we need renewal

and then further protection because every day and all the time we get bombarded with things that threaten to come
