Hello and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories podcast. I'm your host John DeLin. It is October 20th, 2015.

1:00.0

We're recording today, thanks to Terry Wittenberg and we're recording from 99 West South Temple, which is the address for the City Creek condominiums. We're very delighted to be here today.

1:13.0

It's a really special Mormon Stories episode because we have the great pleasure of interviewing President Stephen M. Veezy, who is the president of Community of Christ.

1:26.0

It feels weird to say Community of Christ and not the Community of Christ, but before we began this recording, I learned that actually the Church is not referred to as the Community of Christ. It's referred to as Community of Christ.

1:40.0

That's an important thing to note just at the outset, something I should know but didn't.

1:47.0

Again, President Veezy or Steve, as he prefers to be called, could also be referred to as the Prophet of the Prophet President of Community of Christ.

1:59.0

It's a real honor to be able to spend a few hours with him. I'm really delighted. This interview came about thanks to the good work of John Hamer.

He also was recently called to be the replacement pastor, I'll say, for the Salt Lake City congregation of Community of Christ.

2:46.0

Because their current pastor was just called to be an apostle for Community of Christ. So, super exciting stuff in Utah related to Community of Christ.

2:57.0

We're just really honored President Veezy or as you prefer, I'd call you Steve. We're grateful to have you on Mormon Stories.

3:07.0

Well, thank you. It's a real privilege to have the opportunity to share in conversation.

3:13.0

And tell us real briefly why you're here in Salt Lake City.

3:17.0

Well, the primary purpose is really twofold. And that is to be involved in some Community of Christ church activities.

3:28.0

But that was related to the Parliament of the World's Religions, which was held just recently completed here in Salt Lake City.

3:38.0

So, we had a good Community of Christ contingent at the Parliament of the World's Religions.

3:46.0

And as I understand it, there was a life-size cut out of Joseph Smith III that people could actually pose with the take pictures.

3:52.0

Yes, it's part of our story, our memory that Joseph Smith III attended the first Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago in 1893.
