Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children[a] of one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

| 0:45.9 | It says, behold, children are a heritage from the Lord. |
| 0:50.1 | The fruit of the womb, a reward. |
| 0:54.0 | Let's stop for a moment, let's consider this for a bit. |
| 0:58.0 | You know, we all want our lives to count for something. |
| 1:01.5 | We want to know at the end of our lives if we had the opportunity |
| 1:04.6 | with a sound mind to look back over the years that we've lived. We want the |
| 1:09.2 | opportunity to be able to say, it mattered. I made a difference. My life counted. I know that we all feel that |
| 1:20.1 | desire and we think about that often in terms of accomplishments, career, |
| 1:27.8 | establishing some kinds of a legacy fund that would fuel our family's well-being in the years to come, |
| 1:34.6 | whether that's financially or otherwise, and those are all good things. |
| 1:39.0 | But those are not among the primary ways that God intends for us to leave a legacy, to leave a heritage |
| 1:49.0 | behind us as we leave this planet. |
