As we enter a new year, Paul wants to encourage us to live as light for God's kingdom this year.

Here's this week's Wednesday's word. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a

lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5, 14 through 16.

These words of Jesus, preached during the sermonon on the Mount have become commonly recited

in the Christian tradition.

I would like to propose that they should shock and unsettle us.

Why?

Because elsewhere Jesus declares himself to be the light of the world.

Quote, I am the light of the world.

Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

End quote, John 812. So are we and Jesus both the light of the world? That should be an uncomfortable
