About a year ago, I did a genetic test. You've probably done one of these before,

0:07.6

too, you're spitting a little tube and sending it away in the mail. And they tell you where you're

0:12.3

from. And I learned that I am Scandinavian and from the Baltics and Irish and Scottish,

0:17.9

a little bit from Turkey in the Middle East. I wasn't aware of that. So it was pretty interesting

0:20.9

to learn for about 10 minutes. And then I thought, hmm, now what do I do? That's kind of genetic

0:26.3

testing 1.0. The 2.0 version is already available. And you can get this from a certain doctor,

0:31.7

specialized doctors. You can learn about your potential susceptibility to neurodegenerative illnesses,

0:37.4

your body's ability to detoxify your susceptibility to certain cancers. And a whole lot more

0:43.4

in the 3.0 version. Hopefully we'll start to be able to learn things about the way that nutrition

0:48.4

affects our unique body. I'm sure that you know somebody, if not personally, through social media,

0:55.2

who is just a fitness beast. I'm sure you've seen these people on social media who run

1:00.1

like 20 marathons in 20 days or I think there's somebody who's done 365 marathons and 365 days.

1:06.4

It just seems impossible, like physically impossible, like their knees would literally turn

1:12.0

to sand. And people will often refer to these people as genetic freaks. And freaks is probably

1:18.3

an extreme word, but probably genetic anomalies to some extent. Yeah. And the question is,

1:22.9

are we all genetic anomalies? And the answer is yes. And some of us might have some really hidden

1:28.0

talents that we don't really know about. I get really excited about this nerdy data stuff. And I

1:32.5

especially get excited about when it will become cheaper and more accessible and maybe even something

1:38.1

we could get from our phone or our watch. On this week's show, we'll talk about nutrition and

1:43.6

genetics and genetic testing and where all of this is going. Hopefully. If you're new here,

1:47.6

it's the Lucas Rockwood show. I'm a yoga teacher, a teacher trainer. I'm a serial entrepreneur.

1:52.0

I'm the father of three kids, but first and foremost, I'm a student. So I like to learn things.
