Summary
My parents have always talked about going on a service mission for our church together someday for as long as I can remember, but the plan was always for them to leave after retirement age. They shocked my siblings and me about a year ago at Christmas time when they announced to our family they'd be leaving on an 18 month mission to Barcelona Spain in 2020, NOT because my dad was retiring early, but because they felt extremely impressed that this was the will of the Lord. Today we walk through both of their a-typical journeys in faith and growing up in less-than-ideal circumstances as young church members, where my dad gained his burning love for missionary work and how my mom became truly converted to the gospel, and the crazy back-story of deciding to put my dad's career on hold for 18 months to serve as missionaries for a year and a half in Spain. You'll also hear more about what Senior Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints typically do, and what their advice is to anyone else considering serving a mission.
