This is part five of an on-the-ground investigation into the mysterious deaths of Chris Kramer's

and the San Frone, two young women who died in the jungle of Panama in 2014.

What happened to Chris and the San? Was it a hiking accident, a double murder,

or something else altogether? I'm Maria Matensio. In this series, I travel to the small town of

Buckeite with Jeremy Crite from the Daily Beast to reinvestigate this case eight years later.

Since we landed in Buckeite, Jeremy and I have spent a lot of time filling in the backstory of

everything that's known about Chris and the San. How and where they went missing,

how the search for them unfolded, what we found out from their camera, their phones, their bones.

But now we're at a critical point in our investigation. We've just secured a meet-up with

Feliciano Gonzales, the enigmatic guide who first reported Chris and the San missing.

And it feels like we're on the precipice of breaking new ground here.

I want to go undercover with Jackie and Caroline. The two German tourists we met

while hiking the Biannista trail where Chris and the San disappeared.

We'll all pose as friends seeking a tour guide to take us into the cloud forest.

And then we'll bring up Chris and the San and see how Feliciano reacts.

It's a great plan, so the next step is to call Jackie and Caroline.

But when I reach for my phone to call them and ask for their help, I see a message on my screen.

Sorry, I just got like a creepy email.
