Summary

High on the gratitude list: Tokyo Marathon, here I come! Talking about how I had to do something that I didn't want to do yesterday — and it ended up really working out for me. Trusting the process isn't always easy, but when we can let go of how we think things "should" be and embrace how things are, a lot of possibilities open up. Also: Answering a listener question on how to keep white sneakers white (well, how I do, anyway).

Hey, everyone, five minutes,

0:10.8

Hey, everyone, five minute Friday, day after Thanksgiving.

0:25.6

Happy Thanksgiving.

0:26.9

I hope that whatever you did yesterday, you were able to do something that involved some smiling

0:33.6

and hopefully a little bit of time for you.

0:41.7

And maybe some family, maybe some friends,

0:53.5

maybe some movement. I am reflecting on the fact that yesterday I did something that I didn't want to do and it ended up really working out for me.

0:57.2

Yesterday, I did the turkey trot walk instead of the turkey trot run. The turkey trot I typically

1:06.3

do every year near where I grew up, it's a five-mileer. And although I'm officially throwing my name

1:14.1

in the ring for Tokyo 2024, I can't believe I'm saying that out loud. I'll be running the

1:19.3

Tokyo Marathon next year. Right now, I am loving on a little bit of left knee tendonitis.

1:28.1

It's something I've never dealt with before, but it's not exactly something that I couldn't

1:32.9

anticipate considering that I have been dealing with right foot planter fasciitis.

1:40.3

So if we're looking at the body and something is wonky with your right side, then sooner or later your left side that's been compensating for it is going to say something. It's going to, something's going to happen. And that's what we're dealing with now. Now, I've talked and worked with the physical therapists that I've been working with for some time about this issue. I've

2:02.4

seen him and he's not concerned. I have a plan similar to when I started gearing up for my

2:08.8

last bout of effort in Berlin to start this training cycle predominantly on the bike while I give

2:16.9

my left knee some time to calm down,

2:19.5

some time for that inflammation to subside. Is it frustrating and weird that I'm going to be

2:25.3

running a marathon in 15 weeks and I'm not currently running at all? Yes. Do I trust wholeheartedly

2:31.9

in my physical therapist and I'm not sitting here going to talk to you

2:36.9

about your issues because they are very different than mine and I am not a physical therapist

2:40.8

and I'm working one on one with this man and everything's going to be okay. Also yes.
