Hey, everyone, Emily Abadi here. You are listening to Five Minute Friday from Hurtle. Good morning. Hello, good afternoon. Good evening. Whenever you are listening to this, I'm happy that you're here. Truly. This has been, I was thinking back on this journey. We're almost seven years of

0:40.8

hurtling here. And there are some of you that have been listening to the show since day one

0:47.3

at the very top of 2018. So whether you are an OG hurdler or a new hurdler, I couldn't be doing this if it wasn't for you.

0:58.6

And you need to know that you are appreciated.

This week on Five Minute Friday, I want to talk a little bit about procrastination.

1:08.5

It is something that we are all guilty of. For me, I'm procrastinating

1:13.3

across the board lately. I procrastinate in the mornings when it comes to going through my

1:18.6

morning routine. I procrastinate big, scary things when it comes to sitting down at my desk.

1:25.5

And yes, I too procrastinate going out to work out.

1:31.0

Yet, I know this to be true. When I scratch procrastination, when I get my ducks in a row and get

1:39.2

the thing done that I am more often than not putting off, I am always thankful that I did. And so, I want to share a tool that I've

1:51.4

been using lately called the 60 second switch. Say it's an early morning and I have caved into reaching for my phone. Now, I don't sleep next to my phone.

2:05.4

I sleep where my phone is far enough away that I have to get up to reach it. It sits on a charging

2:10.9

pad across the room in my bedroom. Yet I am in this phase of waking up early, and that means before my alarm, and in my

2:20.6

head, that means, oh, I have this gifted 30 minutes. And you know exactly what I should be doing

2:26.8

with that gifted 30 minutes? Mindlessly scrolling. Now, we know this is a bad idea for many

2:32.5

reasons, right? If you pick up your phone first thing in the

2:34.8

morning, you're instantly overwhelmed, sensory overload, to say the least. You're looking at what

2:40.8

other people are doing. Maybe that comparison trap spiral starts to happen. And that is no way to

2:47.7

peacefully start your day. Even if you don't reach and immediately go to social media,

2:53.8

if you check your inbox, if you look at text messages that maybe you missed after you crashed

2:58.6

for the night, all of these things can certainly be a jarring way to start things off.
