0:18.2 | Today we are going to be talking about some house plant misconceptions if you will I wouldn't call them outright myths just misunderstandings or simplifications that |
0:22.1 | aren't quite helpful for your indoor house plant garden. |
0:25.0 | Now here would be one to start it off. |
0:27.0 | We'll do three or four of these in today's show. |
0:29.0 | The first would be that the bigger the pot, the bigger the plant, |
0:32.0 | and to some degree this is true because if you put a |
0:36.0 | plant in a tiny pot it can only go so far as its roots are concerned the level of moisture the |
0:41.6 | level of nutrition in the soil, but just because of plants in a bigger pot does not mean it's going to grow to some insane degree like it's becoming supercharged. |
0:51.0 | Remember, these plants would natively be in the ground or if they're |
0:54.7 | epiphytic sort of nestled in between the cracks of trees and such, maybe between |

1:10.0 | plant genetics allow them to grow. |
1:12.5 | And so, well, I will say a lot of people underpot their plants |
1:16.0 | is too small and it causes it to be root bound. |
1:18.9 | And that will eventually cause slow growth. |
1:21.8 | It's not necessarily the case that just putting it in a |
1:24.2 | bigger pot will make it grow faster. Okay, the next one is that if you water out of |
1:30.4 | the tap you're going to kill your plant. Again this really isn't true. A lot of people will |
1:36.1 | throw their water through a filter like a Brita filter or they'll go to the extreme and use |
1:41.7 | R.O. Water which means reverse osmosis. |
