Well, the breaking legal news of the night is that Donald Trump wants a new judge.

Of course he does.

Donald Trump is now demanding the recusal of federal judge Tanya Chetkin from presiding

over the case of the United States of America versus Donald J. Trump in Washington, D.C.

Donald Trump's lawyers say in their motion for recusal of the judge that Judge Chetkin

has made comments in sentencing to January 6th defendants that are, quote, inherently

disqualifying because the case of United States of America versus Donald J. Trump involves

Donald Trump's conduct leading up to an on January 6th.

His lawyers insist that Judge Chetkin must be replaced.

Writing in their motion, Judge Chetkin has, in connection with other cases, suggested

that President Trump should be prosecuted and imprisoned.

Such statements made before this case began and without due process are inherently disqualifying.

Although Judge Chetkin may genuinely intend to give President Trump a fair trial and

may believe that she can do so.

Her public statements unavoidably taint these proceedings regardless of outcome.

The public will reasonably and understandably question whether Judge Chetkin arrived at

all of her decisions in this matter impartially or in fulfillment of her prior negative statements

regarding President Trump.

Under these circumstances, the law and the overwhelming public interest in the integrity

of this historic proceeding require recusal.
