In the first part of our chat with Donald Hoffman, we explored how our perceptions might just be a tiny slice of reality and questioned the very foundation of spacetime. Now, let's jump back in and explore the implications of what lies beyond this potentially simulated reality.
0:21.6	Do we recognize the truth of reality?
0:25.6	Well, our best science tells us that space-time is not fundamental.
0:30.6	This is the conclusion of both physics and evolution by natural selection.
0:34.6	So the physicists tell us that space time is doomed.
0:37.9	It's not fundamental.
0:39.2	And they're finding new structures beyond space time, like the amplitude hedron,
0:44.0	that actually make the math easier in space time for the things they need to do.
0:48.4	And then evolution by natural selection also agrees with the physicist that space time is not fundamental.
1:01.0	Let's explain that. So when you say that space time isn't fundamental, what do we mean exactly? In like the simplest, or we'll get into the geeky like deep stuff in a second, but for the audience that hasn't heard you talk before, what does that mean?
1:09.0	Well, we tend to think of space and time as the basic level of
1:13.9	reality. Everything that could possibly be is inside space and has some time. The big bang was the
1:23.1	start of it all. And who knows what the end will be, maybe a big crunch or just petering out in low entropy
1:30.2	and low temperature, we don't know yet. But that we think, or we thought, is the basis of all
1:37.5	reality. So space and time are the basic stage on which all of reality plays out.
1:45.4	And how can it not be though?
1:47.2	That's the weird thing.
1:48.6	Does that mean that whatever is real?
1:51.4	And we should probably give people your headset, metaverse explanation, which speaks dear to my heart.
1:57.7	But before we do that, does that mean that whatever is real is non-physical?
2:05.2	Well, so the word real is a little slippery. So in some sense, my headache is real, right? Because
2:11.7	it's a real experience. But it real in the sense that the physicists are talking about it
