Hi, this is Lily DeHoya-Sanderson, and you're listening to Tews in Glory.

Thanks for joining me in part two of sections 51 to 57.

We got as far as Section 56 in the first half, and I just want to add a few things as we then gear up to our current events

for the week, or whatever catches my eye in the news anyway. But I do want to see something

about W.W. Phelps, like, there are a lot of good characters that are mentioned in these

sections that we've been studying for this week.

I will skip a lot of them, but they're all worth looking up if you have a minute.

But I'm going to share a little bit about W.W. Phelps.

In April of 1830, William Phelps purchased a copy of the Book of Mormon from Parley P. Pratt.

Parley was one of the early missionaries, right? After reading and comparing the Book of Mormon

with the Bible, these people were scholars. Some of them were just so impressive in how they decided to evaluate

the message of the restoration and come to a knowledge of the truth. I'm so thrilled by the

intellect and the integrity of their efforts, as they wanted to please the Lord and follow his will.

Anyway, but after doing that comparison, he decides to join the church.

But he later wrote,

Notwithstanding, my body was not baptized into this church till June of 1831.

Now, it's April of 1830 that he, which is the same month as the formal organization of the

church, according to the laws in the state of New York, but it's over a year later that his body gets

to be baptized. So he says, notwithstanding, my body was not baptized into this church until June of

1831, yet my heart was there from the time I became acquainted with the

Book of Mormon. Now, he has a way with words, which is consistent with his profession because he

was a writer and an editor, and he worked with newspapers and publications, you know, in his life
