The Writers Guild of America has announced that they are on strike as of 12.01 a.m. this morning

the Writers Guild of America West on Twitter at W. G. A. West tweeted the

following. The Board of Directors of the W. G. A. West tweeted the following. The Board of Directors of the WGA West and the Council of the WGA East

acting upon the authority granted to them by their membership have voted unanimously to call a strike affected at 12.01 a.m. Tuesday, May 2nd.

Now this is in reaction to their inability to obtain a new contract that satisfies the Writers Guild because of all of the

changes happening in technology and in media, the majority of content now that is paying residuals or rather not paying

residuals appropriately to writers is because of streaming. I have a clip from

more perfect union that gives a great outline is because of streaming. I have a clip from More Perfect Union

that gives a great outline of what's going on,

but at the end of the day,

we're talking about major production studios

that rake in billions of dollars every single year who are making record profits and are paying their

executives record bonuses unwilling to part ways with even an survivable amount, a survivable amount of revenue for the people who make the

products possible. I don't know if you recall the strike from 2007, but it was a strike that really showed how dependent upon

writers Hollywood is. It simply doesn't happen without the creativity of writers who at one time on television if their show re-aired on television they could make a decent living a pretty good living depending on how frequently their content was repeated

on air because they were able to make money off of ad revenue, commercials, on television.

And now that so much of our content is consumed via streaming, the revenues are simply not the same, and they have gone from making thousands of dollars on replay on television to making sometimes just $23 for their
