I'm Rob Stats Guerrera. Today is Monday, August 25th, 2025. Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers.

The Niners ended the preseason with a 30 to 23 win over the Chargers on Saturday

night, and it featured a couple of up and down performances.

First, linebacker Nick Martin continued to bounce back from his dreadful professional

debut with eight solid tackles,

one for loss, and a forced fumble, Kyle Shanahan is beginning to notice the rookie linebacker.

We love guys who run and hit, but there's a lot more to football than just that.

But that was the thing that we liked about him the most, and I think we've seen him practice a lot,

but I think you guys can also say you've seen in these three games that each game he's gotten better.

There's been more of those clips and less mistakes. And I think he's got a real high ceiling.

And I love how he finished out camp. I love how he finished out today. And I expect him to get better and better as here goes.

Martin earned an 87.2 grade from pro football focus,

which is slightly up from his grade of 31.6 that he got in his first game. Hopefully,

his stock continues to rise. The same, unfortunately, cannot be said of Jake Moody, who was

once again all over the place. Moody made his only field goal attempt of the day, a 38-yarder, but he also missed an extra

point and kicked the ball so far out of bounds on a kickoff that it hit a police officer

standing 10 yards deep on the sideline. Nevertheless, Kyle Shenahan is standing by his man.

I thought he had one of the best games I've ever seen a guy have last week. I know he missed extra point today, which definitely doesn't make us happy, but we'll see how it goes in the year. I know he's a talented kicker. I know he's done some really good things for us. He had a rough left last seven games last year, but I think he's had a real good offseason

and a real good preseason also.

So far in three games this preseason, Moody has missed a field goal, missed an extra point,

almost missed a 26-yard kick, and kicked a ball out of bounds on a kickoff.
