Hey everyone, welcome back to the show.

Next week we are going to be in the middle of the Democratic National Convention

where Kamala Harris and Tim Wall's will become the nominees officially against

former President Trump. So given the fact that we're nearing the end of summer and that news,

the realignment, especially going into the fall, is going back to its nearly all politics,

nearly all the time editorial routes. With that said I'd like to finish off the

summer period by speaking about a book and a topic that is near and dear to the

realignment's heart but once again fits a little outside that strictly political focus area.

Speaking with the economist and historian Nicholas Steinbert about his new book,

The Neptune Factor, Alfred Thayer Mahan, and the concept of C power.

You may be wondering what's the exact relevance to the realignment.

Well A, Alfred Thayer Mahan was one of the most important naval thinkers in not just the United States,

but obviously global history is his thought around the nature of why the sea matters, why navies matter, and overall issues like global trade were key to how the United States and rivals around the globe thought

about the late 19th century. He also was writing during a period where

globalization and topics like Empire were firmly up for grabs, which on a variety of levels obviously is going to rhyme with today's period.

So as we look into the political spaces in this fall, I think we should remember that all these political events are happening in the context of global national

security and other economic related issues that are at the core of

the Therema Hans work and Nick and I have a great conversation updating that all
