Summary

How far should you be shooting at big game with your hunting rifle? In this conversation with Form, we discuss the answer to that question — not from an ethical perspective, or from a technical perspective of terminal ballistics, but from a practical perspective of what YOU are capable of behind your rifle. Form shares some considerations to think through, and also some specific drills that you can use to assess your capabilities at distance, in variable conditions, and under stress. We are not approaching this necessarily from a technical perspective in terms of what is a rifle or cartridge or bullet capable of.

What I wanted to do is ask form about ways that we personally, for ourselves, and practically can get a better feel of what are our true capabilities.

distances on big game so that's what we discussed today this isn't meant to address every single

aspect of distance of technical aspects of rifle systems or of ethics.

1:29.1

Again, I wanted to focus in on you and your rifle and what you're capable of today, right now.

1:37.2

And if you want to improve that and extend distance and extend your capabilities in the future,

1:43.9

what are ways that you can assess that?

1:46.1

What type of shots can you and should you be taking? It's more about your skill than it is about

1:53.7

your equipment or in the case of this context, even about the ethics of long range. Those are good conversations to have at a different

2:02.8

day, but I'm excited to get practical and give you and give me some tips on what we can do

2:10.5

to assess our effective distance in the field. So again, that's what we discussed today with

2:16.7

form. As you may have heard,

2:19.1

we did a podcast Q&A recently with form. Check that out. It is the prior podcast to this one.

2:26.0

And we have several other discussions that we've had with form, more on the technical aspects,

2:31.6

on ballistics, on terminal ballistics, and more.
