The older I've gotten, the less I've talked about my childhood up in the mountains.

Not because it was bad or anything, but because there are some things that are hard to explain.

I'm 64 now, and I've recently discovered this show,

so I figured I'd share my experiences. I grew up in a little cabin nestled deep in the Appalachians.

Back then, we didn't have neighbors close by. Our nearest one was about a mile down the road,

and that was the Johns's. Life was simple.

We had chickens, a couple of goats, and a big garden that kept us fed. But there was always this atmosphere. I guess you could call it that. My parents were strict about certain things, and as kids,

we just accepted it. For one, we weren't allowed outside after dark. No exceptions.
