Welcome to the Jay Scott Outdoors podcast. Today we have my friend Phil Kramer.

0:06.0

Phil, how you doing?

0:07.0

I'm doing real good Jay. As you know, this is a great time of year and I'm enjoying it.

0:12.0

How about yourself?

0:13.0

Yeah, yeah, it looks like from your Instagram you've been doing quite a better

0:17.8

scouting and you just got done with the first weekend up there in Central Arizona

0:22.3

on an Elkhunt helping a buddy. What are you

0:25.8

seeing out there as far as antler growth? You know you've been doing quite a bit of

0:30.7

scouting, you've got cameras out, what's the antler growth looking like?

0:34.0

Well you know it's kind of what we expected it's what we had talked about earlier in the

0:40.0

year you know as you know we had a really dry winter in the majority of the units around the state.

0:48.0

In that Central Arizona area where we're hunting, It wasn't an exception. It was dry as well and the rain started fairly late and the

0:58.7

antler growth suffered. The bulls started out really well, for the most part pretty good fronts and once they get up to their thirds and everything they start to peter out.

1:10.0

I've yet to find the bull that's finished strong. They're lacking in mass for the most part and

1:17.8

overall it's a down antler growth year.

1:21.8

What would you say so you, let's say like a 350 bull, you know, like a frame, is he down to, you know,

1:30.7

325, 330, because the back end is just real stunted is that what you're seeing and

1:36.2

and you know like a 330 bull is only like a 300 or 305 bull because the back end you know

1:42.1

short fifth short short 4, short beam.

1:45.0

That's exactly what I'm saying.

1:47.0

And it's also what we're seeing with the bulls that we're actually getting to lay eyes on, as well as the bulls that were actually getting to lay eyes on as well as the bulls that I've got

1:55.2

on camera this year.
