Let me preface this by saying, the 1980s were a different time. Children ran free around where they lived. Some parents would casually watch their kids while working parents left their kids to fend for themselves if they were considered old enough.

Most things were treated pretty casually.

For heaven's sake, child car seats weren't even used.

Sometimes two small kids would be buckled together by a single regular seatbelt,

if even that was used. It very much was a different time. I grew up in one of those small

towns that is a suburb of a suburb of a big city. Most parents that have unruly children that find themselves involved in gangs or drug dealing in the city,

will get pawned off on their grandparents in these small towns.

The hope is that grandma or grandpa will straighten them out somewhat.
