You know, whenever you feel frustrated in life and whenever you look around and you say

what is going on in your life is crazy, you have to kind of go back internally and just

rationally ask yourself, well where can I find meaning in my life?

That's what I get out of your book.

I think a lot of people sit there, sit being their coffee, reading the newspaper and thinking,

you know, I'm going to be really active about climate change.

They come up with this artificial thing that's going to provide meaning for them.

Like what would you prescribe about how you can find some meaning?

Well, so this is a little bit of the paradox of hope that I talk about.

Is that one of the things that generates hope for us is conflict.

When you create a society that's devoid of serious conflict when nobody's life is threatened,

our brain naturally starts seeking conflict because that's the easiest way to generate hope.

You make this distinction between the thinking brain and the feeling brain.

So the thinking brain can say, intellectually I know I need to find hope, I need to find meaning,

but I think it takes a lot of practice for that feeling brain to really sort of absorb this message

and do it.
