Summary

Don’t Blame Your Programming, Change Your Programming

Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. This is not going to surprise you, but we all have something in common. We all mess up. We all make

0:18.8

mistakes. We all do things that we wish we hadn't. We all do. But that's not going to surprise you. But what

0:27.6

may surprise you is why we mess up. There's a tendency for the majority of us to think that when someone messes up, including

0:36.2

ourselves, that we're just bad.

0:38.9

There's something wrong with us.

0:40.8

And we should do better.

0:42.0

And when we don't, it's completely our fault.

0:45.0

0:47.0

And that gives us permission to shame ourselves, because we're bad.

0:51.0

At least that behavior was bad. We did things that we shouldn't have done.

0:56.3

And we should know better and we shouldn't do them. It's that simple.

1:06.3

We spent years, sometimes decades depending upon our age, getting conditioned to be the way we are.

1:13.0

Sometimes it's subtle conditioning,

1:15.0

little things that we get exposed through throughout the day,

1:18.0

and throughout our lives.

1:19.0

When we make decisions, when we take steps and actions at our lives. It's a culmination of tens of thousands

1:26.9

of previous conditions that got us there, that shaped us, that encourages us or pushes us towards a certain behavioral direction.

1:36.3

So because of these previous conditions, we're going to do other things, things that we may not

1:41.1

want to, but we've been conditioned to.

1:43.0

Things that we think I shouldn't do that but the conditioning is so strong

1:48.0

that we do it anyways.
