This is the next passage, directly after what we discussed last week.

And Tolkien turns our attention back to Morgoth.

We've been focused on Mim, the dwarf, and Turin and Beleg, and the goingabouts of those things.

And we know that they've been fighting the orcs in the wilderness. And we know that Morgoth's power is seeping southward. But we are

reminded here of just how far he has reached.

Because there's a contrast.

We're given a contrast in just a moment.

And I want to read all of this because it's actually really, really cool, really kind

of interesting the way this is built up.

So it goes on and says,

to her, speaking of Melian again,

often the thought of Morgoth reached out,

and there was foiled.

And now again the might of Angband was moved,

and as the long fingers of a groping hand, the forerunners of his armies probed the ways into Balearion.
