Unas, sometimes called the Cannibal, is remembered for one great contribution to history.

His decision to inscribe on the inner walls of his pyramid a set of religious texts known today as the pyramid texts.

This body of religious literature remained an exclusively royal prerogative for nearly two centuries

as the Sixth Dynasty came and stamped the last great splendour of the old kingdom

on the narrative of history.
