of Charles Manson.

Charles Manson's story contains multitudes.

Of course, it's about madness and multiple murders, executed by the so-called family,

members of a cult that Manson created around his personal philosophy, which patched together

elements of Christianity, Scientology, science fiction, Garden Variety Racism, Beatles

lyrics, and Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Of course, it's the story of the 60s and of how the utopian promise of the civil rights

movement and the peace and love ambitions of the hippies curdled admits to series of

disasters.

The Manson murders were preceded by the assassinations of Martin Luther King and both Kennedys, the

election of Richard Nixon and the worsening situation in Vietnam, all events which were

branded by someone as the death knelt of the 60s, as was the killing of a Rolling Stones

fan while the band played at Altamont, three months after Manson was put behind bars

for the last time.

But the Manson murders were more than a 1960s phenomena.
